If you’ve read this blog even once, you know that I’m probably Degrassi‘s biggest fan. I’ve seen every episode, from The Kids of Degrassi all the to the show’s current incarnation on Much. Yes, I love Degrassi.

It’s the time of year where we are all thinking about money.  If you’re like me, you’re probably wishing you had more so you get the gifts that you really want for your friends and family.  But just like saying Merry Christmas seems inappropriate, now so does buying gifts at all.  It seems that everyone wants us to have a charitable Christmas, which I think is totally great, but sometimes it’s just fun to buy gifts for people, especially the kids in your life.

So it’s this struggle between charity and material gifts that I wanted to write about in today’s Metro column. How much should we be forced to give to charities and if we don’t give anything, does that make us a Scrooge?

We’re only a few weeks away until one of CBC’s hottest properties returns to the airwaves and it looks like Republic of Doyle of doing is coming back with guns a blazin’…literally.

They’ve also just released a preview of the show’s third season premiere and this time they’ve got a pretty big guest star: Russell Crowe!

The former Gladiator and Oscar winner has been friends with Alan Doyle for a while and Doyle often show’s up on his buddy Allan Hawco‘s show, so it only made sense that Crowe would eventually make an appearance. Personally, I think it’s awesome that Russell Crowe would be up for having some fun on a Canadian series and it kinda makes me like him just a little bit more!

Republic of Doyle returns January 11th on CBC!

Rumours hit the internet today that a Canadian edition of The Bachelor will soon be on its way.

Huffington Post and 2forcouples.com are both reporting that a Canadian version of the show could be in the works and it could actually be on air as early as Spring 2012!  If that’s true, the show producers have kept the production one hell of a secret! There aren’t very many other details, except that the show may be filming in the Western region of Canada.

The rumour is that that the show would be on CityTV, but Rogers communications, who owns the station, isn’t saying anything, (which you could maybe interpret as something.)  The network did send out a press release yesterday  announcing their Winter premiere dates, but made no mention of The Bachelor. If it was true, it would CityTV’s third Canadian edition of a show made popular in the States (Canada’s Got Talent, Secret Millionaire).

So if the show was to go ahead, who would you want to see? I wonder if they’ll go with a lesser known Bachelor or will they seek someone that everyone  in Canada would recognize.   It’s easier to film the show if it’s an unknown person, but the free press of picking a celebrity is worth millions.

For me, obvious choices of a Canadian bachelor would be  Jian Ghomeshi, George Strombolopolous or Peter MacKay. All four are already some of this country’s most famous bachelors, plus Canadians love all four of these guys, so it would be a ratings bonanza!

The Junos are still months away, but it takes time to plan the country’s biggest award show and producers announced today that the first batch of performers have now been booked.

Feist, City and Colour, Deadmau5 and Blue Rodeo have all signed up to play the 2012 JUNO AWARDS on Sunday, April 1st from Scotiabank Place in Ottawa!

All four of these artists are arguably some of the biggest in Canada right now, so it will be interesting to see who else will be booked. If other artists were waiting to see who else was on the bill, I’d say now is the time to call your management, this show is going to be huge!
