My grandmother did what?!

“The man in the picture is Al Rae, the Artistic Director of the Winnipeg Comedy Festival. The girl is Chantel Marostica. She followed ‘my gig”. She said that I was her f—in idol. She later asked me to sign her boobs. Three pens later I succeeded.”

The above is an email I got from my 87-year old grandmother, that’s right EMAIL! Sweet lord I love that she signed a strangers boobs.  Seriously, how awesome is that?

Suck on that Betty White!

Canada’s Most Influential!

Time Magazine has just released the names of the 100 Most Influential People and some notable Canadians made the list! (click here to read the whole thing.)

  • Bank of Canada Governor Mark Carney.
  • Director (and sore loser) James Cameron.
  • Indo-Canadian paramedic Rahul Singh.

Sadly, Joannie Rochette didn’t make the cut.  Obviously, the people at Time have no hearts.  And no, I’m just bitter because I wasn’t even nominated….  Okay, 5% bitter.

Time Waster of the Day!

Be honest.  How many of you are sitting at your desk right now reading this blog when you should probably be working….that’s right, all of you.  Hell, I’m writing this blog and I should definitely be working!

While I certainly appreciate you coming over to procrastanate, I have found something better to waste you time with.

Ladies and Gentlmen, may I please present:  The best online game EVER!

The game is called Super Mario Crossover and if you’ve ever played Nintendo in the 80′s then this is the game for you.  Basically, a bunch of super nerds got together and tweaked the most classic game ever, Super Mario Brothers.  But instead of playing as Mario and Luigi, you can also play as one of your favorite NES characters from other games!  You can play as Link from Zelda, that guy from Contra, Mega Man, Samus from Metroid or Simon from….I actually don’t know, I guess I’m not that big of a nerd.  YES!

If that wasn’t cool enough, once you start playing the game, you get to keep all the original characters attributes.  Mega Man still shoots like Mega Man and you even get to hear the old school Mega Man and Zelda music!  It is seriously awesome.

Hold on to your 80′s flashback, this game is freaking amazing!

Mike n’ Metro

My newest column is in today’s Metro Newspaper!

If you don’t live in the Calgary area, you can read it online.

This week’s column talks about Calgary’s love/hate relationship with traffic, and while it is easy to complain about it, maybe all this waiting in our cars is a good thing.

Blake McGrath: King Gaga?

The whole country knows that Blake McGrath can dance. But did you know the So You Think You Can Dance Canada judge can also sing?

Well…I’m no expert in what technically makes someone a good singer, but he’s obviously good enough to release an album. The singer/dancer has signed a deal with Universal Music Canada and will be releasing an album in the fall.

In the interim, McGrath has just put out his first video for the debut single, The Night.

SYTYCDC fans will recognize a ton of the dancers in the video. Blake asked many of the alumni from the show to appear in the video. Some of the dancers include: Nico, Natalie, Vincent and Austin. I’m pretty sure Tera-Jean is in there somewhere too. It is hard to tell with all the leather!

Check out the video and let me know what you think! Do we have a male Lady Gaga on our hands?

Good news for lovers of porn and reality shows!

Two  new and very different channels are about to hit Canadian television sets.

Today, Global announced that in July they will be launching the very un-excidelty named Global Reality Channel.  Some of the shows that will be aired on the specialty network include: Big Brother, Apprentice UK, Survivor, Project Runway Canada, Fear Factor and X-Weighted. How this station is different than TVtropolis is anyones guess.

The second new channel is a little more…titillating.  Canada’s first porn channel will be coming (!) into our homes in October.  Montreal-based Sex Shop Television has just announced that the channel, called Vanessa, will be launching in Quebec and that we should expect an english language version in late 2011.  Ahhh since when does it matter what language porn is in?

Canadians love Haiti!

K'Naan

You’ve all downloaded Young Artist for Haiti’s Waving Flag right?!

The charity single that was spearheaded by K’Naan, has not only been a huge financial success by raising more than $1 million for the children and families affected by the earthquake in Haiti, it is also a huge hit on the radio and Youtube!

Since its release seven weeks ago, it has maintained the #1 position at radio all formats, remained #1 on iTunes for digital downloads, selling more than 160,000 copies so far and received over 4.5 million video views

Of course, we can probably thank Justin Bieber’s rabid fan base for some of the songs success, but at the end of the day it is an amazing song with a strong and beautiful message!

Congrats to everyone invovled.  And thanks to everyone that took the time to actually buy the song!

Calgary’s newest Virgin

Even if you don’t live in Calgary, by now you may have heard that this city is currently in the middle of an all out radio war!  In the past three years, more than a dozen new radio stations have joined an already crowded radio market.

Well it looks like things are about to get a whole lot more interesting!  On April 1st, Astral Media registered the domain names Virgin985.comVirginRadio985.com, and VirginCalgary.com for use on CHR “Vibe 98.5” CIBK.  That is all fancy radio talk for, Virgin Radio is coming to Calgary!  Not only is it coming, it looks like it will be taking over for the very stagnant Vibe 98.5

As an added little twist, Vibe’s biggest compeition is also Calgary’s newest radio station, Amp 90.3  Buzz Bishop is the host of Amp’s morning show. And Buzz Bishop used to work for Virgin in Vancouver!  Did you get all that?

There is no official announcement as to the fate of Vibe 98.5, but if you ask me, it looks like we’ll finally have a Virgin…just in time for Stampede.

More Good Neighbours

You still have one more day to enter my Delta Good Neighbors contest! In case you forgot, I’m giving away two weekend stays at any Delta in Canada! To find out how to enter, click here.

I’ve been getting so many great submissions about people’s good neighbours, I’ve been feeling all warm inside. Since there seems to be so many great people out there, I thought I’d take a moment to share with you some of their stories!

“On the first day that we moved in he brought us flowers and told us all about the neighbourhood and just… made us feel welcome!” -Maddie

“The good neighbour asked me so kindly if I wanted him to beat the shit out of said ex-husband. I graciously declined, but it was nice to have the offer.” -Liz

“(My car broke down) and I don’t have a cell phone so I had to go knock on the door and see if I could borrow someone’s phone. A man said I could borrow his but he wanted to come take a look at it.”-Lauren

“I’ve got a good neighbour. When he was driving drunk and crashed into our fence he helped my husband fix it!” -Erin

“I have a kind neighbour who always has a nice word for the kids. He checks the mail for us when we are away and shovels before we come home.” -Shonna

If you have a good neighbor, let me know and you could win!!!!

It's a bird, it's two birds, it's four birds?

If this doesn’t put a smile on your face, I don’t know what will.

A cute and sober looking couple named Dough and Sheila Carrick have set up a webcam inside an eagle’s nest on Hornby Island. The BC couple put the camera in the nest in 2004 and ever since, have gotten a “bird’s eye-view” into the life of these two bald eagles.

While this might not be the most exciting thing to watch year round, you might want to take a minute or two to check it out today or tomorrow. The birds have laid two eggs and experts are expecting the eggs will hatch either today or Wednesday! The eagle-couple has had some disappointments in the past with some of their eggs not hatching, so people are feeling very anxious for the two birds!

Watching the birds tend for their two eggs is almost hypnotic. They are so precise and delicate. It really is beautiful. On Monday night, it looked like it was pouring and the wind was howling and yet, there the mama bird sat, keeping the eggs warm. My mom regularly struggles to remember my middle name. The live camera is also great because it includes sound, so along with the crashing waves and strong winds, you can also hear the eagles make all sorts of noises as they prepare for the arrival of their babies.

I know crazy bird enthusiasts are probably watching around the clock, but try to check in every now and then. The sounds are surprisingly relaxing and who knows, you watch get the chance to watch something truly amazing….that doesn’t involve the last name Gosselin.

To view the birds yourself, click here to watch the webcam!
