Review: Make Room for 'Love'

>
Quick. Name a celebrity power couple.

Too easy? Name a celebrity CANADIAN power couple.
Now that’s a little harder.
But CBC has found five of them and put them all in the tv-special, Love Letters.
The show is a performing arts special based on the 1989 Pulitzer-Prize nominated play Love Letters by A.R. Gurney.
The show features Canadian acting couple Peter Keleghan (18 To Life) and Leah Pinset (Made in Canada) or Pe-tah, Peter Donaldson and Sheila McCarthy (Little Mosque on The Prarie) or Shei-ter, Nazneen Contractor (24, The Border) and Carlo Rota (24, Little Mosque on the Prairie) or Naz-lo, Colin Mocherie (Whose Line Is It Anyway) and Deb McGrath (Little Mosque on The Prairie) or De-lin. And lastly, Samantha Bee and Jason Jones (both of The Daily Show with John Stewart.) or Samanson.

In a time of reality-dating shows with Flava Flav or Tila Tequilla, a show like Love Letters is surprisingly welcomed. I had forgotten that good love stories could still be told on television. I had become cynical about what modern day media had done to the idea of love. Love Letters is warm, funny and refreshing.
What I really enjoyed about the special with that it is interlaced with true stories of the couple reading the play. Some survived long distance, others were high school hearts. And one couple had to keep their relationship secret, because they were still seeing other people.
Watch Love Letters tonight on CBC and consider it an early Valentine’s Day gift.

First Four Minutes of Lost!!!!

>
You know how every city has a sports bar? Wouldn’t it be awesome if they had a LOST bar? You know, a place where you can get together every Tuesday and watch the show with other fans. This could be helpful because I always tend to miss things, but if I was watching with other Lost geeks, then they could explain everything to me.

We are now only three sleeps away from the premiere of the final season of Lost. The show has pretty much the premiere under lock and key and I haven’t even heard one spoiler of the first episode.
But now they’ve released the first four minutes of the premiere. Watch if you want, but just as an FYI, the first two minutes is a scene that we’ve already scene. After that, it looks like EVERYTHING changes.
Click here to watch the first four minutes!
Three Sleeps! Three Sleeps! Three Sleeps!

I can't stop listening to….

>I simply cannot stop listening to Hey Rosseta‘s Old Crow Black Nigh Stand Still. Such a great song, I had to share!

The Simpsons come back to Canada!

>

Do you know that I only have one set of tickets for the Olympics?

Yup, and it’s for curling.
I couldn’t be more excited.
You know who else loves curling?
The Simpsons!

They’ll be coming back to Canada in an upcoming episode, check out The TV Addict for full details!

TJ Burke, The next American Idol?

>
Remember that New Brunswick MP who got famous this week for singing ‘Pants on the Ground‘ in (or is it during) legislature?

Well he just got his 15 minutes extended.
Apparently, his now world famous video is going to be featured on American Idol.
According to CBC, MP TJ Burke was contacted by an associate producer from the show asking if they could use the clip in an upcoming ‘Pants on the Ground’ montage!
He doesn’t know when the montage will be on exactly, but he has already been featured on TMZ, CNN and Fox News!
RANT: Oh and for all the people who are grumpy about TJ having a little fun at work, why don’t you just cool your jets? Do you ever watch parliament? It’s the most exciting to happen to them in years. Most of these people can now die knowing they laughed at least once in their boring self-important lives.
And rant done.
Here’s the video if you still haven’t seen it!

Wisdom Teeth: One last message

>
So today is the big day.

Today is the day when a “dentist” goes in, rips open my face, cuts through gums, muscles, bone and removes useless teeth. Some (more) normal people might call this getting your wisdom teeth removed.
With only a few hours to my surgery, here are some of my final thoughts.
1) I’m so excited to be done this freaking surgery. Mostly because I can’t stop watching people cringe their faces when I tell them about it. How do you think this is helpful or supportive?
2) I’ve decided to go with an oral surgeon that also doubles as a plastic surgeon. I’ve made it clear to him several times to stick to the teeth, but if for some reason I wake up looking like Ben Mulroney or Heidi Montag, know that I did not ask for it. And yes, I’ve already asked if he does hair transplants. One thing at a time.
3) I’ve emailed several people asking if they would go in my place. None of them have returned my emails. Please know that your names have been added to a list and you should be expecting smaller than normal Easter gifts. I mean business!
4) If I die, please remember that I want people to twitter the hell out of my funeral. I’ve always been fond of the hashtag #deadblogger. But if you feel like being more creative, I certainly won’t hold it against you….because I’ll be dead.
5) Mostly, to all the people I’ve yelled, cried at and generally been cranky to over the last couple of days. I’m sorry that you aren’t stronger and better people. You can’t start crying when I’m already crying. That doesn’t help anyone. And to the guy whose computer I threw out the window, I do feel bad about that. But it was PC, so I sorta did you a favour!
Phew….so stressed…..

Boone, Boone, Pow!

>

Dear Boone,
Why are you on the cover of the new Entertainment Weekly?
Aren’t you dead?
It would be swell if you weren’t.
Unless you came back as a Vampire. I would not like that.
See you next Tuesday?
Mike

Buble on Tour!

>

If you are a fan of Michael Buble, then this is your week!
First it was just announced that the Canada crooner will be touring Canada this summer (dates below), secondly, Buble will also be the musical guest on Saturday Night Live this weekend! He’ll be performing while John Hamm hosts, maybe they’ll even do something together? I can totally see Buble as McGruber’s ultimate foil!
No dates have been set to buy tickets for his summer tour, so keep your eyes peeled. And sadly, it looks like he is too big to do shows in the maritimes now. It is a shame, my mom and sister are still drooling from two years ago! Seriously, it is becoming a health issue.
Michael Buble Tour Dates:

Aug 5 Montreal

Aug 7 Ottawa
Aug 9 London
Aug 10 Toronto
Aug 13 Winnipeg
Aug 14 Saskatoon
Aug 17 Calgary
Aug 20 Vancouver

'True Blood' heads north!

>
One of my biggest regrets in life is never having watched True Blood.

Okay, maybe not in my entire life, but in my blog life, not watching True Blood ranks really really really high.
My reasons for not watching have been mostly because I’m a cheap son a bitch. I refuse to pay for HBO Canada, the DVDs are a bit too pricey and I’m not a fan of downloading shows.
So me and Sookie have never been officially introduced.
Luckily, for me and the three other people who have never seen the vampire series, True Blood is finally coming to a non-pay channel.
The SPACE network announced today that they’ll now be airing episodes of True Blood. The show, which stars Canadian Anna Paquin, will premiere on March 14th!
I already have made a note beside my TV to TIVO it. I pvr’d my pvr. I’m that excited.

Avril meet Alice, Alice meet Avril

>
Everyone’s favourite angsty Canadian is back with a new single.

Not specific enough for you?
I’ll try again.
Everyone’s favourite angsty Canadian, who was also a judge on American Idol this week, is back with a new single.
That’s right, it’s Avril Lavigne!
It seems like forever since we’ve heard anything from here, but she’s just released her newest single for Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland. You can have a listen on her website.
Or you can listen to this illegal Youtube video, probably won’t be up for long, so if it’s down by the time you look, deepest apologies.

Hopefully now that Avril is back making music, she can stop with those pink-eye inducing Canon commercials. Stick to what you know Avril, stick to what you know!
