How to choose: Jens vs. Andy

>The nominations for this year’s CBC’s Galaxie Rising Star Award have been announced! The winner will receive a cash prize, and will be given the oppurtunity to perform at this years Harvest Jazz and Blues Festival Mojo Tent. The festival has quickly become one of the biggest and most respected festivals in Canada and it just happens to be in my hometown of Fredericton. To give you an idea, my mother takes the entire week off to “enjoy” the festivities. An entire week.

The nominees were just announced and they super exciting , the problem is I don’t know how to decide.

Here is the problem. I know and admire two of the nominees and yet somehow I have to decide to vote for only one. Phew.

Andy Brown (listen to him here)- I’ve talked about him before on this blog and his voice still gives me chills. Seriously, when I saw him play a couple of weeks ago here in Calgary, I became an instant fan. Plus not to mention that his brother and his girlfriend (the brother’s, not andy’s) are two of my great friends here in Calgary. His voice is chilling and this could really open a lot of doors for him!

Jens Jeppeson(listen to him here)-I actually haven’t talked to Jens in many a year but we funnily did our University degrees together. I should also mention that we both have Spanish degrees, randomly from New Brunswick. Anyway, after he graduated Jens took off for asia and really established himself has a talented and unique artist. I feel a sort of loyalty towards Jens because there were only like 6 students in the entire Spanish program and you get to know people pretty well. Basically what I am saying is that he probably has some shit on me that I’d prefer didn’t come out.

So how is someone to decide? Luckily the website has posted videos of both of my friends and you can decide for yourself. You don’t have to an NB’er to vote so have a listen and let me know what you think. I wish they could somehow both win. I guess they’re kinda like last year’s Jordin vs. Blake American Idol finale. I’m sure it’s just like that…..

I'm on TV!

>I just got email saying that there is a commercial with me in it floating around the airwaves of New Brunswick!

It was from something I did a couple of years ago.
Pretty cool/random/funny!

Check it out:

Heading home

>Today is great day. No not because Miley has the #1 CD in all the land, but because I am finally getting a chance to head home to New Brunswick for a whole week. I haven’t been in home the Summer time since 2006 so I am so so excited! It is going to be a crazy week full of friends, family, my doggy and most importantly McLobsters.

Honestly, I’m so excited for McLobsters. I’m also excited to take a break from Tivo. We spend a lot of time together and while we have had our good times, things have been different lately. Today Miguelito (my tivo’s name) taped an old episode of 7th Heaven. I was shocked and took it quite personally. It turns out it had a guest appearance by Keri Russell so it was understandable but the whole thing seem to come out of left field. It was strange.

Anyway, the break will be good. I’m also excited because I love flying home because it means I get 3 to 4 hours on uninterrupted TV time on board of the plane. I’m flying through Montreal because I get more flying time then if I flew to Toronto. I usually watch one movie and some shows and it’s great because it’s guilt free. When you are stuck on a plane you don’t have to worry about work, emails, phone calls, daylight or even fresh air. You are stuck on a plane thousands of feet up in the air!

Anyway, I’m going to be in Fredericton for a couple of days, then camping in Sussex (hee hee) then off to Halifax, back to Fredericton and then off to Toronto for 5 days! I’m pumped for the trip to Toronto because me and some friends are going to be hitting up the town and catching Avenue Q. And you would be a fool to not think that I am not going to do my best to get me on MTV Live. Jessie, Diane, Dan, Nicole, Paul Aliya-Jasmine and the rest of the MTV gang must know I exist. This is my new life goal.

I’ll still be updating the ol’ bloggity blog and I have a HUGE (think #1) announcement on August 1st. It’s going to be great!

Bon Voyage (can I wish myself that? oh well, I just did!!!)

R.Springfield Update!

>So I just got an email from a very nice lady from Fox New Channel. Apparently Mr. Rick Springfield will be performing live on the plaza outside of the FOX & Friends (6-9AM ET)studio tomorrow. (1211 Avenue of the Americas & 48th).

So after you buy his new cd today on Itunes you can catch him live tomorrow morning. And lord help him if he doesn’t sing Jessie’s Girl.

On a side note: I am one step closer to interacting with Bill O’Reilly. It is a good day.

Thanks for the heads up Diana!

Finally New Brunswick wins something!

>
My home province of New Brunswick is an amazing place. It’s so pretty, safe, quiet, calm and green. It however sucks at reality shows, more specifically finding someone who can actually doing any good on one. First there was Kel from Survivor:Australia who was the 2nd to get the boot, Casey Leblanc on Canadian Idol got to 5th place but that was only because we had nothing better to do that summer and well…I think that is pretty much it.

That all changed when on Monday night, New Brunswick born Elicia MacKenzie won the CBC reality casting-show How Do You Solve A Problem Like Maria and also won the lead role in the upcoming Andrew Lloyd Webber produced The Sound of Music show opening in Toronto this fall! While some might dwell on the fact that every website about Elicia describes her as a Vancouverite, New Brunswickers will take anything we can get our little hands on. And since she lived in my former home province for the first 5 years of her life we are officially claiming the win as our own!

Congrats Elicia, maybe I’ll run into you at the Regent Mall some day.

Rick Springfield: It's about freaking time!

>
I like to give recommendations. For the most part people don’t want to hear them so I don’t use my power of “Mike’s Bloggity Blog Blob Recommends” often, mostly for fear of the responsibility. Plus people don’t realize that it gets tiring trying to convince people that Hanson’s 2nd CD This Time Around is still one of the best CD’s I’ve ever heard.

But today is a special day. On Tuesday July 29th, Rick Springfield will be releasing his newest CD. Now, I haven’t heard it and I’m sure it is probably a crap CD worthy of praise only seen by any single released by Paris Hilton but still people, it’s Rick Springfield! Jessie’s Girl!!! Doesn’t this guy at least deserve your pity $9.99 from Itunes? How many times has Jessie’s Girl brought even you to the dance floor of the most boring party, wedding or bar mitzvah? Rick Springfield has made karaoke cool for thousands (or 27) years, the least you could do is by his CD and help him feed his two sons. And it’s not like I’m asking you to buy all 21 one of his albums (yes, I counted). I’m asking you to buy one or at the very least his first single ingeniously titled What is Victoria’s Secret on Itunes.

So with that I’ve decided to haul out the infamous Mike’s Bloggity Blog Blob recommendation honor to Rick Springfield and his new CD Venus in Overdrive.

You are welcome Rick, you are most welcome.

I told you so!

>Remember a couple of weeks ago when I said this season’s Canadian Idol was completely unfair?

Well, I hate to say it (actually I love it) but: I told you so.
Good Luck to Alberta’s Amberly Thiessen. The only remaining girl (among 7 boys). At the very least you have pretty much guaranteed yourself a role in the next tour of The Vagina Monologues.

“My vagina is a 5th place Idol!”

The problem with The Dark Knight

>
So I finally got a chance to see The Dark Knight this weekend with my friend Steve. As planned we saw the Imax show on Saturday afternoon. Sure it was perfect Summer day outside but who cares we got tickets to the Dark Knight, you don’t screw out around with that, no matter how nice it is outside.

Anyway, I’m not going to spoil anything here, I promise but I just gotta get something off my chest about the problem with the Dark Knight:

It is so hard to talk to someone about it if they haven’t seen it yet. There is so much amazingness that happens that you don’t see in the trailer, that you just want to talk about all the surprises, twists and turns. Let’s just say this: The trailer doesn’t really give a solid idea of what the movie is actually about, which is rare for an industry that usually tells you everything in a 2:00 minute preview.

Anyway. The Dark Knight is awesome and if you can see it on Imax, even better. Absolute ridiculousness.
I always want to tell you that if you don’t end up getting tickets for The Dark Knight this week but you are already at the theatre go see Hellboy II, because for my money it is just as good as the Dark Knight. I’m not even joking. and the best part is is that you don’t have to see the first Hellboy to enjoy the 2nd. There is hardly a reference to it and for the most part you are caught up in the first 5 minutes anyway. I have no problem saying the movie is visually more stunning than DK and the fight scenes are just that much more amazing. I was watching the movie and I kept to my friend and saying :Are you freaking me?” in pure amazement. Honestly, it’s that good!

Here comes DEXTER

>The Dexter season 3 trailer was just released at Comic Con and I got it here for you to watch RIGHT NOW. It looks so so so good. Especially with the addition of Jimmy Smits. Me thinks Dexter should be watching his back.

Dexter makes his 3rd season premiere on September 28th on Showtime in the States and on the Movie Network here in Canada, it can also be illegally downloaded the very next day.

killer!

Funky Friday 11

>This is the most random Funky Friday I will ever post. I’m not really sure of what made me think of it earlier on this week. But as soon as I hit play I got a huge maritime flashback which is fitting since I’m heading east in a mere 5 sleeps!! Can’t wait. I’m not even sure if western Canada even ever had this song. Cause lord knows every maritimer knows the lyrics to the entire thing. Things get really good right around o:42

Anyway. I hope you all had an amazing week. Enjoy your weekend, don’t drink and drive (or dive for that matter) and remember to have lots and lots of fun! And make sure you check back next week because I got some amazing news coming your way!
