The Adoption

>I would like to introduce the world to the newest member of Mike’s Bloggity Blog Blob.

She is fat, lazy and cute.

No it’s not Carnie Wilson…it’s Magic the cat.
That’s right, I’m the proud foster parent of my friend’s cat, who they sadly had to leave behind for a couple of months.

I already love her to bits, I’ll love her even more when she stops waking me up at 5am to feed her. Like I said, just like Carney Wilson.

***Don’t worry mom, if I still have her in October, I already have some friends that will take her for the week!***

The Heatwave

>Calgary is a hilarious place. Where else can it snow in April, rain for the entire months of May and June and then for the summer’s first long weekend it reach a completely unreasonable 33 degrees (91 Fahrenheit)?

But I love the heat, so I’m not going to blame. Plus I’m lucky enough to have a four day weekend, so bring on the heat.

Perhaps the most popular activity to do in the summer time in Calgary is float leisurely down the Elbow or Bow river. They are kinda like lazy rivers you’ll find at a water park, only people drink on our rivers. Knowing that they would be packed, I decided to take my pale ass elsewhere.

Weekend (so-far)Wrap Up:

Saturday night, some friends and I checked out some acts from the Sled Island festival. I keep meaning to check into why it’s called Sled Island, because all week it has sounded like people were saying Slut Island, which is obviously a completely different island all together. Not to mention, it was just last week that we hosted the Virgin Fest and while I have known some girls to have gone from virgins to sluts in under a week, I didn’t know festivals could do it too. Anyway, my favorite band of the night was definitely Language Arts. They actually hail from Nova Scotia and they pretty much are destined to end up with a song in one of those montages at the end of a show like Grey’s Anatomy.

On Sunday, I was feeling particularly adventures and decided to head out to the mountains last minute with my friend. We decided to go for a hike up a trail called the Yamneska Trail. We also decided about 5 minutes after starting that we are definitely out.of.shape. My friend quickly explained to me that my diet of chips and chocolate chips probably attributed to my what I can only assume were a series of heart-attacks mixed with crying. But, I’m a trooper and even though my friend made it only half way up, I actually made it all the way to the top of the mountain and it was amazing! I had my turkey sandwich on the edge of Yam Mountain and while it was terrifying it was also a great feeling. If, when, we do get Survivor Canada, I’m soooo ready for it. Of course, on my way down I got horrendously lost and was actually kinda scared, but my mom reads thing blog, so let’s save it for another day.

All and all it was great weekend. Capped off with a viewing marathon of Jon & Kate Plus 8, which you know I loved. Actually, correction, it was a perfect weekend.

I’m off to Lethbridge on Monday and Tuesday to celebrate Canada Day with my cousin. Should be a blast!!!

Big News! In fact it's HUGE!

>
Stampede is just around the corner!  And everyone knows that one of the best things about the Calgary Stampede are the free pancake breakfasts you’ll find all over the city for 10 straight days!

One of the biggest breakfasts every year is the CBC Stampede Breakfast!  This year it will be taking place Thursday July 3rd from 7-9am (Mountain time) and guest pancake flippers will include:
-Mayor Dave Bronconier
-Alderman John Mar (awkward encounter alert)
-Elizabeth May (leader of the Green Party)
-Andrew Brash (climbed Everest)
-Bret Hart and/or Paul Brandt
-Kevin Taft (who on Thursday just stepped down from the Liberal Party Leader job!)
and…….
MIKE from MIKE’S BLOGGITY BLOG BLOB!!!!!
Yes….you did just read that right!!!!  I was so excited for the past week I have been barely able to sleep!  I’ve been up late every night practicing how to flip so many pancakes at once!  It’s going to be insane!!!
I am also pumped because right now I am scheduled to share the shift with Elizabeth May and we have a lot of things to talk about!!!!
The breakfast is going to be a LOT of fun and I hope all you Calgary readers can take a moment on your way to work (or on your way home from the bar) to swing by and share a pancake with me!  My shift flipping the flapjacks is between 7:30am-8am.  Be sure to check out all the event details on the Facebook Event Page I made just for this event!
If you aren’t going to be in the Calgary area you can listen to the whole thing on CBC’s internet radio station which can be found on their website!
If I wasn’t excited for stampede before, I am now!

Funky Friday 7

>Can you believe this is Funky Friday again already?!!  This week has gone by sooooo fast!  It’s amazing.  God I love the summer months. Especially long weekend ones.  Okay so this weekend isn’t technically a long weekend (Canada Day falls on Tuesday this year) but most offices are closed (including mine) which means an amazing 4-day weekend!!!  And if you are unlucky enough to not have Monday off well tell you boss that Mike from Mike’s Bloggity Blog Blob said that he/she needs to chill out, listen to this week’s Funky Friday and give you the day off!*

I have a whole list of great songs lined up for the entire month of July, but if you think of one make sure you send it my way!
I hope you all have an amazing weekend.  Be safe and have fun!  Please, please, please do not drink and drive.  There are always cabs or sober friends out there!!!!
By now you know the drill.  Turn up the speakers, open a window, get up off your chair and dance like you are dancing for your life on SYTYCD!
Happy Weekend!

An Arresting Idea

>Is it May 10th? Because it’s feeling a whole lot like my birthday! While scanning my favorite internet sites this morning I stumbled across a little story with Jason Bateman (who stars in next week’s awesome looking Hancock).

According to TV Guide.com Jason said in an interview with MSNBC that an Arrested Development movie was “in the works, the grown-ups are trying to work out the numbers.”

He then goes on to say that the show’s original format might change a little bit when it’s get to the big screen, When it was on TV, if you missed one word the whole third act could be blown for you. And TV is a different experience. You come home and you’ve got to finish a call so you miss the first ten minutes or you get snacky and you go to the fridge and you miss another two minutes, so it’s a different experience to film.”

Are you kidding me!!?!?!? An Arrested Development Movie?!?!?!!? How perfect is that? I guess we have Carrie Bradshaw and Co. to thank for that one eh!

2009 is going to ROCK!

Now time to celebrate:

Career Watch: RIP Blake Lewis

>
I’ve always felt bad for Blake Lewis. At first, I always confused him for fellow runner-up Travis from So You Think You Can Dance. Then he participated in one of Idol’s weakest seasons (Sanjaya!) yet in which Jordan Sparks essentially won by default. Not to mention the fact that he got completely screwed over when he had to sing the god awful “winner” song, This is My Now.

But things started looking up for him when he got signed by Arista and released his first album. Audio Day Dream came out last December and despite a pretty catchy first single (Break Anotha) the whole thing never really caught on and sold only 300,000 copies. Which for a debut artist is okay, but for a debut artist that was watched by millions and millions of people, not so much.

I actually bought the album and I kinda think it’s okay. There are some good songs and some bad ones. But the good ones are groovy enough to help me get my groove on whenever that is necessary.

But today Blake Lewis’ bad luck continued when it was announced that his first album with Arista would also be his last. And with that Lewis joins the dubious group of Idols who have been dumped by their labels that already includes Rubben Studdard, Katherine McPhee and Taylor Hicks.

In honor of his short lived career I would like you to watch Blake’s one and only video for Break Anotha’. Actually just listen to it. They should have gotten Travis to do it. Do not watch it, because it is obviously and probably the professionally made video I have ever seen by an artist. Like it’s bad. Really, really bad. I’m warning you. Don’t watch it. STOP! DO NOT DO IT!!!!!!

By now you’ve all heard about the social site called BeautifulPeople. In case you haven’t it’s just like the name implies and it’s only for the world’s most beautiful people.

So how do I feel about this?

I’ll let you know in 72 hours………..

“You have successfully registered a profile on BeautifulPeople.net.”

This is going to be either hilarious or very painful.

New Movie Trailers: The Good/The Bad

>I stumbled upon two movie trailers over the past couple of days. One of them made me very happy and excited. The other made me want to injure myself or someone that sorta looks like me.

The Good:
The Mummy-Tomb of The Dragon Emperor

Look, I know people don’t really like The Mummy movies. Well, actually people don’t like the sequels. There is simply no denying the greatness of the first Mummy movie back in 1999. The second one was pretty rough and I couldn’t even find the time to bother seeing The Scorpion King and I virtually have no life or plans, so I think that says something.

Maybe it is that same something that has me pretty excited about the newest Mummy movie starring Brandon Fraser but sadly no Rachel Weisz. It looks like she decided that chasing Oscars was more important than dead people, which I guess you have to admire (Maria Bello steps in as Evelyn Carnahan). John Hannah also didn’t seem to mind chasing more dead things as he also returns as Evy’s smart alec brother. The Mummy 3 looks like exactly the kind of movie we’ll need during those hot summer months when the only air conditioned retreats are movie theatres and libraries. Hahaha, just joking, obviously no one goes to the libraries anymore.

The Bad:
Disaster Movie

As someone who is lazy, there is nothing I hate more than lazy people. And as a movie fan, there is nothing more lazy than a spoof movie. Especially when they are about movies that aren’t even out yet. And what frustrates me the most is that these movies actually make OK moolah at the box office. I would like to know who is seriously going to these movies. While it is probably safe to assume it is probably Nickelback fans and GED holders alike, I have to wonder: why? I loved Scary Movie , I thought it was funny, thought and biting. But of course the success of that movie opened the flood gate of movie spoofs and our world hasn’t been the same ever since. I remember the on the bottom of the Scary Movie poster was the tag line: No Mercy, No shame, No Sequel. And look how that turned out. Oh well, I guess we should be grateful that it doesn’t look like Pamela Anderson Lee Rock Salomon Lee is in this one. That’s gotta be worth something right?

The Apology

>
To the guy in front of me at the grocery store tonight who was buying flowers for his girlfriend. Carnations never ever do the trick. Ever. Whatever ever you did to piss your girlfriend off, I’m fairly certain the carnations will only piss her off more.

Good Luck!

Mike

*image is not representative of flowers actually bought. They were about a quarter of the shown bouquet.
